Single in the City

Alas….I am single again….boo (jk). I always think about what Sex in the City episode I can relate experiences in my life to. I think about that one where Carrie breaks up with Aidan the second time and she says “no Aidan….and no apt….its been a tough week” or someone like that. Well I think “no Anthony…..and no exercise….I feel like a sloth.” Honestly, whenever I feel sad, I just go work out. The release of endorphins is a truly natural way of making yourself happy… a good alternative to Prozac (not that I’ve ever had an anti-depressant before). But of course due to my foot injury I am still not able to do any cardio. So it just sucks. I have way too much freakin time on my hands since I get home at like 4pm. I realized that I really spent a lot of my week keeping busy working out (like close to 20 hours which included work out time and drive time). And I really miss that. Anyways, I’ve decided to write this blog as my way to “exercise” myself to happiness…..And no, I am not bitter (at least not that bitter J)

5 reasons why I LOVE being single:
1. I can go out, drink, and flirt with who ever I want without guilt
2. I don’t have to choose between my significant other and my friends/family
3. I get the whole bed to myself and I have my own space to collect as much crafting crap as I please
4. I don’t have to “check in” with anyone
5. I can be myself and don’t have to compromise

5 reasons why I HATE being single:
1. I have to resolve to internet dating where the pool is just murky (no offense)
2. Wedding bouquet toss (enough said)
3. Listening to my mom say “so and so has 5 grandkids already.”
4. Being the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 11th wheel…..and so on and so on, I think you get the point.
5. Having to wonder….will I ever find that someone for me. (and then having to hear people say something stupid like, “you will meet him when you least expect it”)

People…if you haven’t picked up on my sarcasm….this is meant to be amusing in some sort of sadistic way. I always try to find the humor is the sad, the good in the bad, the positives from a negative situation. I always learn from my experiences of love and I always get up after falling (and I really fell hard this time). Life goes on…..

Spinning Salad and Meat Cart....I Love Lawry's

Posing for a family shot before grubbing!

My family wanted to celebrate a few events in one....my dad being in the America for 50 years, Angie's upcoming birthday, and my dad's upcoming birthday. With Christie being in town, we all decided to take the whole family, sans lil' Chibster, to Lawry's in Beverly Hills. I hadn't been there for awhile and looked forward to eating the yummy prime rib. I had the California cut of prime rib, along with the spinning salad, mashed potatoes, bread pudding, and creamed corn. And it was delicious, but more so being with my family at a nice dinner made it even more special. If you haven't had prime rib, Lawry's is a nice place to try it out....of course second to my mom's annual Christmas Eve dinner where she makes a mean prime rib.

Props to Tofuya Again!

My Favorite side dish: Chapchae
The Off Menu Spicy Chicken Dish

I have to give props to my favorite restaurant again. Tofuya is my neigborhood reliable place to eat Korean tofu soup and Kalbi. My running friends Julia and David treated me (and Angie) to a yummy post surgery dinner. Andy, the waiter that we both know greeted up and was surprised to know that we knew each other. He is always nice to us and this time was no different. He gave us a spicy chicken dish to try out....apparently it is not even on the menu but he wanted us to have it. Afterwards we went to Beard Papa. I just had the regular cream puff which is always reliable. Angie had the eclair which had dark chocolate on top and it is my new favorite

Marsha and Ryan's Wedding September 6, 2008

The Higas

Always a bridesmaid...never a bride! Jk. This was only my second time as a bridesmaid and it was a great experience. Marsha was so relaxed and laid back and super generous. It was truly an honor to stand up there by her side to support her and Ryan on their big day. And it was a gorgeous wedding with all the special details: the boba bar (the couples favorite drink), the modern vs nature theme of brown and green, the moss runner, the lego couple on the centerpieces, the candy containers on the table, and so on and so on.

The Bride Right Before Seeing her Future Husband

The day started at the Higa's beautiful time share on the Newport Coast, overlooking the ocean. We hung out getting our hair and makeup done and tried to keep the bride calm and entertained. Marsha looked absolutely gorgeous and skinny!

Waiting for the Show to Start!

Doing our Favorite Thing: Playing Pasoy Right Before the Wedding

The reception/ceremony site was the ultra modern Orange County Museum of Modern Art. The layout was beautiful and Marsha and Ryan really went all out with the special touches. The reception was also outside and the food was delicious (not like most weddings). We had grilled artichoke (like at Bandera), macadamia nut crusted sea bass, and filet mignon. For dessert, they served chocolate covered strawberries and root beer floats along with wedding cake.

The Moss Runner and Beautiful Flowers

Congratulations Marsha and Ryan and I'm so glad I could be part of your special day!

This Little Piggy Went to the Foot Surgery Center

Post Surgery (the same day)

Two weeks post (stitches out...eek, still purple and swollen)

Get well basket with get well water from Joni (I love you Sister Wife)

So I have been out of the blogging loop due to my being out of town and then my recent foot surgery which has taken me out of the swing of things for about 2 weeks. About a year ago I started to notice some problems with my right big toe. After seeing two podiatrists, I discovered that I had a bone spur growing on my toe joint impeding its ability to go into full extension. Those of you who know me well, know that my toe would get inflamed and swollen after heavy exercise and after wearing high heels. Not being able to give up those two things, I opted to have surgery to correct the bone spur. On August 20, during my vacation mind you, I went in (by myself due to no ride sniff sniff) and had that bone spur lopped off. My surgeon was great as was the anesthiologist who gave me some nice sleeping medication through my IV. I ended up waking up as they were putting the stitches in. My parents were nice enough to pick me up and take care of my every need afterwards for the 2 weeks I was at home recuperating. The first two days were quite painful. I was unable to weightbear on my foot, having to use crutches to get around. It hurt just to stand up due to the blood rushing to my foot. To top it all off I caught a bad cough and cold making it extra painful to heal. I'm hoping that my foot will go back to normal and I can get back to my exercise that I miss so much. It is tough not working out at all.

I wanted to thank a few people for helping me through my surgery (sorry this sounds like an Academy awards speech). My parents for being super wonderful: getting me water, filling up my ice pack, feeding me, and basically tending to my every need. I would not have been able to have that surgery without them. I also wanted to thank Joni and Evan for visiting me the next day to cheer me up with a get well basket and for picking me up a week later, driving me to their house, and hanging out with me. Extra thanks to little Evan for telling me he loves me, which always brings a smile to my heart and face. Thanks to Marsha for visiting me and bringing me greasy fast food (burger and zucchini fries) from Galaxy Burger. She really knows what to bring to ease the pain. Gary, thanks for visiting me in all your busy-ness and even on your birthday. Onelia, thanks for visiting me and driving me to Guppy House and sharing the Guppy Special. For all of you who don't know, that is a small shaved ice (which is actually ginormous), a brick toast, and popcorn chicken. Yeah, I don't know how we ate that between the two of us...but it was awesome. Thanks to all of you who called me to check up on me (Jennifer, Ann, Sarah, Dean, my sisters). The hard times are the times when your true friends are there for you and I appreciate all of you for that. Lastly, I want to thank my Anthony for calling me and making me smile like no one else can.
